Max Bates joined Grizzly Baseball as an Assistant Coach in June of 2025. Coach Bates, is a former Hickman High School baseball player in Columbia, Missouri.

Coach Bates pitched over 200 innings during his college career spanning 5 years. Coach Bates spent 3 years of his career at North Arkansas College in Harrison, where he earned All American honors after the 2022 season. During the 2023 season Bates boasted a 2.94 era across 67.1 innings pitched. Coach Bates finished his career at Blue Mountain Christian University in Blue Mountain, MS. During his one season of play at Blue Mountain Bates pitched a team high 78.1 innings across 14 starts.

Bates graduated with an Associates of Arts degree from North Arkansas college where he was apart of two academic all American teams. While playing at Blue Mountain Christian College Coach Bates graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and was named to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
